Non-American Wins Nobel Prize for Literature, As Promised [Books]

Last week, Nobel Prize secretary Horace Engdahl sniffed that the prize for literature most certainly would not go to an American, as we are “too isolated” and don’t “participate in the big dialogue of literature.” He was right: Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clezio, an “‘author of new departures, poetic adventure and sensual ecstasy,” won.
